Mojacar Costa de Almeria

Nestled between the mountains and the Mediterranean, Mojacar is situated in one of the driest and warmest parts of south east Spain. The surrounding area offers miles of unspoilt beaches, the Cabo de Gata National Park with its quiet, pretty coves & wildlife including flamingos. Inland you will find typical Spanish towns, as well as caves & castles, and spectacular mountain drives through fields of almond trees which erupt into a froth of pink & white blossom in February and carpets of wild flowers in the Spring.

In Mojacar itself, there is a wide selection of bars & restaurants ranging from Spanish, English, Thai & Chinese to Mexican, Italian etc., plus several large supermarkets for self-catering clients. There are also 4 golf courses within half an hour´s drive, plus a selection of sports including windsurfing, canoeing, water skiing, diving, minigolf, tennis & squash, go-karting and 4x4 excursions,

There is a wide selection of hotels, from the prestigious state-run Parador, to 4* hotels & simple hostals or apartments, catering for every taste & budget.

Just inland from Mojacar Beach is the pretty hilltop “white village” of Mojacar Pueblo. Settled since the Bronze Age © 2000 B.C., then by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans & the Moors, and commemorated each year by the famous Moors & Christians Festival in June each year.

Perched at the foot of the Sierra Filabres mountains, the old village is a tangle of narrow winding streets, typical Moorish architecture and sudden wide vistas. Explore on foot, visit the local Wednesday market, the Sunday morning flea market or enjoy a drink & a tapa (small snack) whilst watching the sunset from the Plaza Nueva.
